SVG Color Remover

Convert SVG colors to grayscale or black & white.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why would I need a single-color SVG?

Cutting machines like Cricut and Silhouette separate layers by color, so each color becomes a separate cut operation. A single-color SVG gives you one clean cut. Laser cutters use grayscale values to control power levels, and screen printing needs a separate stencil for each color.

What is the difference between grayscale and black & white?

Grayscale converts colors to shades of gray based on luminance, which is useful for laser engraving where gray levels control depth. Black & white uses a threshold to make every pixel either fully black or fully white, ideal for vinyl cutting and screen printing where you need solid shapes.

Will this work with complex SVGs that have gradients and CSS styles?

Yes. Unlike tools that try to change individual element colors, this uses an SVG filter that processes the entire image at the render level. It works regardless of how colors are defined, whether that's inline styles, CSS classes, gradients, or inherited colors.

Can I use the output with Cricut Design Space?

Yes. The output is a standard SVG file. For Cricut, use the black & white mode so you get solid shapes. Note that Cricut has a 5,000 path limit and doesn't support pattern fills or embedded raster images.
